About PayslipIQ

PayslipIQ is an independent, plain-English pay stub and paycheck explainer for American workers. We help people understand what they are looking at on a pay stub and what the math behind it actually does — so they can ask the right question of their payroll team or qualified professional.

What we do

PayslipIQ provides educational tools and articles that translate the most common items on a US pay stub. The platform includes a Pay Stub Checker that flags items worth a question, a Paycheck Calculator that estimates take-home pay using IRS Pub. 15-T methods, FICA and Social Security wage-base logic, state tax models for all 51 jurisdictions, an Overtime Calculator covering federal FLSA and state daily-overtime rules, a Bonus / Supplemental Wages Calculator, and an Ask Payroll Generator that drafts a polite question to send to your payroll team.

Who we are for

Hourly and salaried American workers who want to understand a paycheck without paying a CPA every time something looks off. Especially: people whose paycheck just changed and they don't know why, people checking their first pay stub at a new job, people moving between states, and people with bonuses, RSU vesting, or supplemental wages that look heavily taxed.

Who we are not for

PayslipIQ is not a substitute for tax preparation, legal advice, payroll administration, or HR support. If you need to file your taxes, dispute a wage claim, restructure your withholding strategy, or formally challenge an employer, please work with a CPA, enrolled agent, attorney, or your payroll/HR department.

How we stay independent

PayslipIQ is independent and not affiliated with the IRS, SSA, U.S. Department of Labor, any state tax or labor agency, any employer, or any payroll provider. We do not run ads above primary tool CTAs, we do not promote payday-loan style products, and any partner relationships are clearly labelled. Our partner categories are documented in our methodology page.

How we make money

Free tools and educational articles are funded by a planned premium tier (printable Pay Stub Report, Monthly Paycheck Monitor) and a small set of clearly labelled partner integrations in tax software, payroll software for small business, CPA / bookkeeper directories, and financial wellness platforms.

Our editorial standards

  • Every numeric claim cites the IRS publication, SSA wage base, DOL rule, or state agency it is based on.
  • Tax-year and last-verified date are surfaced on every calculator output.
  • State-specific rules are sourced from the state revenue or labor agency directly.
  • Every page includes a disclaimer that PayslipIQ is educational only, not advice.
  • If a piece of content cannot be verified, we mark it for manual review and either remove it or label the uncertainty clearly.
